The Roof..The Roof...The Roof is on...Well..it's on!

We have been able to get quite a bit done with the roof last week before the weather got crappy again.  Rainy, windy and more rain...not to mention, it got cold!  32 degrees is not normal April morning temps for us! Thankfully the weather is getting back to normal.  It should be back to sunny and 70-ish degree days for the rest of the week.

We got the walls bolted down to the metal frame with some Simpson Strong-ties and big bolts. We did this every few feet down both sides of the trailer.

We used more strong-ties and heavy bolts to tie the porch beams down.

The attic space over the porch is framed up and reenforced with even more strong-ties.

All the exterior framing is done!  And she is looking mighty pretty if I do say so myself!  Now comes the roof!! :)

OSB up and roof ready for the next step.  :)

We are using a galvanized steel roof.  It has that classic rustic look we wanted plus it should be more durable.  We used a heavy duty membrane in place of traditional roof felt.  We used a product called Winterguard Water & Ice Shield.  It has an adhesive in it to make it stick and to help seal around screws and nails.

We got all the roof up except the ridge cap.  That should be up in the next day or so.  After that, we will start on the exterior..getting it ready for siding and such.  We have been on the hunt for some strong-ties called TWB12 which is a t-shaped wall bracing system but it's been rather hard to find.  You would think Home Depot or Lowes, being a builder supply warehouse would have them...but no!  And they won't order them either even though they carry the Simpson Strong-tie brand.  If you haven't dealt with either company for getting things you need then you don't know what a pain it can be.   I miss all the small local builder supply shops.   We finally found a local place not too terribly far from us that carries it and plan to pick up some tomorrow.

And More Framing Pictures

We are finishing up the framing and getting the house ready to put down the roof, OSB sheeting and get it wrapped!  Almost there.....

We got the front wall framed in with the door and front window opening.

Roof line extended up to that point.

Framing up the front porch with 4x4 treated posts.

Front porch with roof extended.

I love it..can't wait to get the roof on and the sides covered. :)

Did Someone Say Rafters???

We had a lovely day yesterday and took advantage of it as much as we could!  It was warm and sunny..perfect for some more framing!  I even got a little color to my otherwise pale skin.

W finished framing the walls in for the bedroom area and rough framed in the windows.

See...I really do help!  Nailing down the top rail of the wall.

We built a temporary support for the main roof rafter.  It holds it in place so we can start putting up the rafters.

Ready to begin putting up the rafters!

We measured and got the angle cuts needed for the rafters and created a template.  We cut about 10 at a time to save time and energy.  Up and down a ladder all day kills your feet!

We were able to get a bit done before calling it a day.  We cut up several more rafters to be mounted the following morning.

So far so good!  I love how things are coming together.  Every day it looks more and more like a home.  And every day we come one day closer to moving in!  :)
